Wherefore Art Thou Blog?

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and everything in between!

I've missed my blog, but I've been so incredibly busy with life that I haven't been able to squeeze a second in to write. Please forgive me!

I hope everyone had a safe and fun new years! Kyle and I had a little get-together for parents who have kiddos and can't sucker anyone into watching their kid's on national party night. ;) It was cooler than anything else though because seriously, who wants to be out and about driving on new years with all the drunks? Not this girl! We had firecrackers, champagne at midnight (or sparkling juice for all the youngins') really awesome hors d'oeuvres and a great crowd! Brinley even got wild for the party and stayed up until 10:30!

I have great plans for 2012 - hopefully the world doesn't end before I accomplish them all. Ha! I LOVE new year's resolutions and stick to them each year. Last years was to floss my teeth more often. Ask my dentist how well that went. I did the opposite and even broke a tooth in half. The year before that was to make smarter and safer decisions for myself, as I was going through a really rough point in my life. January 1st I started out great by creaming a deer with my sister's car. The year before that was to get really awesome grades in college. I ended up dropping out. Yeah, you get the point. I suck. So, this year, my official resolution is to get nastily-greasy-disgusting fat and completely let myself go. I hope it goes just as well as my other ones!

While I'm on the subject, I would just like to ask that everyone say a quick prayer for a family friend of ours. I wasn't personally very close to him, but my stepdad was best friends with him for years. If you are from Minnesota you have probably heard of the man who was killed by a snow plow while riding his bicycle. There's so many discussions on how he had made a terrible decision to be riding in that weather, but your negative opinions don't matter at a time like this. If you were mourning the loss of someone so close, the last thing you would want is bad-mouthing. I just hate reading all the "he deserved it," or "what an idiot.." comments. You are entitled to feel that way, but please just keep them to yourself and have a little sympathy. We have started the new year with a heavy heart, but we just put it all in Jesus' hands and ask for patience and understanding to get us through.

Just one quick story about my crazy workplace and I'll be on my way. Just for a little understanding, if we bond someone being charged with a felony, we keep them on a check in list because if they hoof it to Mexico, we owe lots of money. So this one guy, we shall call him Jim, is on a check in with us every Monday and Friday. He kind of creeps me out and always says in this ghetto/un-sexy tone of voice "howww youu dooooin," or he asks me if I'm alone in the office. Jim is being charged with rape. Anywho, today he comes in and the conversation caught me off guard.

Me: "Hey, Jim! How was your new years?"
Jim: "It was great. A lot of fun. It was the first one in fifteen years that I was able to spend with my family."
Me: "Oh yeah, that's awesome! Fifteen years is a long time to be away."
Jim: "Yeah I just got out of prison. I shot this dude straight in his head. Now they trying to give me forty years for rape. I didn't do it."
Me: "Hmm. Okay see you Friday!"

Just so nonchalantly. Yeah.. I killed a man.. No biggie.
I try not to judge people in the office because some of them really are innocent, or at least I like to pretend. It's just kind of hard when you see things like this happen each day. I really hope that they turn away from their evil ways and find Jesus. I can't begin to tell you how many prayers I say a day, all being for complete strangers.
